Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
To build or to buy. That has been the question that has plagued Chris and I for the past few months. After going to countless open houses, searching the internet, and driving around Abilene for hours on end, we have decided several things:
- We are picky….if you consider wanting a master bedroom big enough to fit a king size bed being picky (Yes, we went into one NEW house which was so poorly designed that the master bedroom would not accommodate a king size bed, that is, if you intend to walk on either side of it.)
- We want space…after growing up in the country surrounded by practically nothing, three feet from the neighbor’s fence is not going to cut it!
- Houses are expensive…no matter if they are already built or about to be built. Building or buying, it’s still a lot of money.
- And finally, if we are actually going to be homeowners, we want a home that we can call our own!
So, after much thought and weighing of choices, we have decided to BUILD! If you are like me, you are probably thinking that the choice to build is the hardest one to make and all subsequent choices are much easier. Well, I’ve quickly discovered that deciding to build has only brought a million (or even billion) more choices and decisions to be made. Consider the following: builder, location, floor plan, design…and on and on and on!
Over the next few months, this blog will be our way to document and preserve this amazing experience…its joys, struggles, disappointments, adventures, and surprises…so that one day when we look back, we can remember the journey that led to making our house a home.
